The Gordon & Joyce Carper Mentoring Program is Berry College’s premier mentoring experience, designed to shape future leaders through personalized guidance, self-reflection, and participation in the local leadership community.

Outcomes

Students in the Carper Mentoring Program develop three core habits of integrity in leadership through:

  • Personalized Mentoring – Gain insights and guidance from experienced mentors.
  • Foundational Lessons – Equip seminars help you build a solid leadership foundation, while teaching you how learn to use tools like reflection and feedback to continually refine and strengthen your approach.
  • Professional Networking – Become a part of a community of experienced leaders.

Three Levels of Challenge

The program’s mentors, staff, and peers form a community dedicated to supporting and challenging your growth as a leader through purposeful mentorship and collaborative learning:

  1. Equip (Personal Growth) – Build self-awareness and leadership skills.
  2. Empower (Team Collaboration) – Develop team dynamics and shared leadership.
  3. Encourage (Community Leadership) – Create lasting, positive influence beyond oneself.

Program Requirements

Students participate in a structured set of activities, including:

  1. Equip Seminars: Monthly, focused workshops on personal and professional leadership fundamentals that will inform your journey.
  2. Mentor Meetings: Monthly sessions with experienced mentors who bring real-world perspectives and guidance to your leadership development.
  3. Student Ownership: Supportive peer cohorts offering discussion, accountability, and a sense of community.
  4. Signature BCIL Events: Opportunities to engage with mentors and peers through BCIL programming that delivers inspiring messages and practical wisdom on integrity in leadership.
